Kathleen Cohen has six years of experience working as a broadcast journalist: anchoring, reporting, producing, and serving as a multimedia journalist. She has a total of about ten years working in the media industry.
Kathleen previously served as the Morning News Anchor for WTVO/WQRF-TV in Rockford. She has experience working as a digital media producer for WBBM-TV in Chicago, 4 p.m. News Anchor for WAND-TV in Decatur, Illinois, Weekend Anchor for WIFR-TV in Rockford, and Reporter/Anchor for Lakeland News PBS in Bemidji, Minnesota. She also worked for iHeart Radio and Radio Disney in Chicago.
Before getting her start at her first news station, Kathleen co-founded her own online reporting company. She is a go-getter who is motivated, enthusiastic, and loves creating her own opportunities.
For the past year, Kathleen has been working as a freelance journalist, content creator, and videographer in the Chicagoland area. She has added shooting and editing real estate videos to her repetoire of video services she offers.
Kathleen was painfully shy as a child and decided to break out of her comfort zone and shell in college, switching her major from biology/pre-medicine to broadcast journalism.
Kathleen attended University of St. Francis in Joliet, Illinois where she graduated one year early, magna cum laude. She earned her bachelors degree in mass communication with a concentration in broadcast journalism and media arts. While she was in school, she interned at NBC 5, Fox Chicago, and iHeart Media in Chicago.
She has several years of experience doing commercial print and runway modeling in New York and Chicago. She was previously signed with a few different modeling agencies in both cities.
Kathleen has emceed a variety of events, including fashion shows during Chicago Fashion Week, community events in communities where she's worked, and participated in career day events at local schools.
Kathleen is originally from the northwest suburbs of Chicago. In her free time she enjoys playing violin, spending time with friends and family, crocheting, going to the gym, playing with her dog Cocoa, and traveling. She loves being an active part of her community, as well.
At age 16, Kathleen founded a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization called Create A Change Foundation. Create A Change Foundation strives to identify issues to create opportunities to procure the resources necessary for significant improvements or solutions for various medical issues. The motto: "It takes many to identify a problem, but only one to create a change. Be the one!"
She took one year off from her news career to help her mother with medical issues. After spending several few months helping her family, she decided to take time to travel, knowing her experiences abroad would ultimately help her gain a wider cultural understanding and help her become a better journalist. Kathleen spent four months living and volunteering in Haifa, Israel, teaching English to grade school children in an underprivileged elementary school.
If there’s one message she hopes people recognize, it’s her passion for everything she does. She went into journalism to make a difference — to inform, educate, hold those in authority accountable, to give a voice to the voiceless, and tell the stories of those making a difference in their communities; the stories that inspire and give people faith in humanity.
